The treatment process involves the application of cups on various points of the body. A negative pressure (suction) is then created by using a hand pump. This is then followed by applying small, superficial scratches or incisions onto the same location point of the body. This is performed by using a sterile surgical instrument that is disposable. The cups are then re-applied and suction is applied again. The toxic blood is gradually drawn out and then safely disposed.
Be rest assured that Hijama Cupping Therapy is a safe procedure if performed correctly (by a qualified practitioner). An initial assessment will be carried out at the time of booking to pick up any contraindications and a full medical assessment will be carried out at the beginning of your appointment. Clients are advised to fast for a minimum of three hours prior to their appointment to obtain maximum benefit.
One should understand and accept the possibility that there may be marks that will last for a few days including the production of circular bruises or discolourations where the cups were applied. The superficial scratch marks usually fades within three weeks and does not usually result in scarring if the appropriate after care advice has been adhered to. However, a very small percentage of individuals may incur scarring due to their skin type or failure to follow the after care advice. Certain areas of the body are more sensitive than others, so there maybe minimal discomfort due to the application of scratches to the patient’s skin surface. Other possible minor side effects include: Feeling light headed post treatment this is similar to the sensation one feels after a blood test. Cupping therapy encourages blood flow to the cupped area (hyperaemia) one may feel warmer as a result of vasodilation (widening of blood vessel) and slight sweating may occur followed by feeling cooler. There is a sound scientific rationale for this and there is no cause for concern.

Please note: Diabetic patients can be treated with wet cupping as a different technique is used to avoid risk of infection. Diabetic patients must take their medication and have their meals as usual. Meals must be kept light and consume soft foods only. Those with BP complaints can also be treated, their BP will be checked during their medical assessment.

Treatment time should take no longer than 25 to 30 minutes which includes the initial consultation.
This depends on your assessment/consultation, some individuals may need only 3 sessions. Others who have chronic diseases may need more sessions. Cupping is not only used for ailments and diseases but it is also a great preventative.
Dry cupping and massage cupping can be performed at any time. Wet cupping in urgent cases can also be performed at any time, however some prefer to have cupping performed during certain times of the lunar month:
The Messenger (Peace be upon him) said: “Whoever performs cupping (Hijama) on the 17th, 19th or 21st day (of the Islamic lunar month) then it is a cure for every disease.’

Curative Cupping can provide dry cupping treatment only for those under 18 provided that they undergo a full medical assessment and written consent is provided by the patient and parent/guardian.
Shower at least 2-3 hours before your treatment and not just before your treatment.
It is recommended to fast for a minimum of two hours before your treatment, this is because having food activates the blood circulation in digesting and transporting nutrients around the body.
Avoid consuming acidic products such as: red meat and all dairy products (for 24 hours). You can eat fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables, small portion of chicken only – try to avoid if possible.
Avoid all caffeine/carbonated (fizzy) drinks (for 24 hours). You should drink lots of spring water to stay hydrated & you can drink green tea instead which has better health benefits.
Avoid all forms of tobacco including beetle nut and paan (for 24 hours) if possible, try to find ways to gradually quit this habit.
Avoid physical exercise/intercourse (for 24 hours)
Although a disinfection will be used pre and post treatment, try to avoid washing the affected area (for 24 hours) this is to remove any small risk of infection.
Apply olive oil generously on the affected area twice daily for 2-3 weeks.
The price of the treatment depends on the type of cupping you require and location.
Ibn Al-Qayyim mentions that the Messenger (Peace be upon him) was afflicted with magic and was cupped on the head to treat it. He also mentions that Hijama is from the best of cures for magic if performed correctly (Zaa al Ma’aad). Alhamdulilaah there are effective measures in place now that do not require for patient’s hair to be removed for this treatment.
